Crowley Presents Scholarships Worth $5,000 to Two University of North Florida Students

Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) November 20, 2013

Crowley Maritime Corporation has awarded two Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to University of North Florida (UNF) students Brandon Little and Aquiles Rodriguez at a scholarship luncheon early this month. Crowley?s Jim Gillen, vice president of engineering, petroleum services, presented the scholarships to Little and Rodriguez for their academic excellence and enrollment in UNF?s transportation and logistics program. Each student will receive $ 2,500 toward their tuition.

Little and Rodriguez?s recognition is in keeping with Crowley’s commitment to education and fostering future community and business leaders. Each year dozens of students with diverse stories are awarded Crowley scholarships. Little and Rodriguez are no different.

Little is fully engrossed in all things transportation and logistics at UNF. The senior is currently president of the school?s Transportation and Logistics Society, having previously served as director, treasurer and vice president. He has also taken advantage of the opportunities the program has to offer, which include representing the university at the Intermodal Association of North America Logistics and Supply Chain Management Case Competition this past spring. Little has also gained valuable experience through multiple internships including an internship at Crowley Maritime during his freshman year. Upon receiving his bachelor?s in 2014, Little plans on beginning a career in transportation and logistics and ultimately earning his master?s in business administration.

Rodriguez, also a senior, is a part of the board of directors in the Transportation and Logistics Society and is also a member of the student Rotary Club called Rotaract. He is currently majoring in both transportation and logistics and international business with a minor in Spanish. Upon graduation, Rodriguez hopes to secure a position at a company where he can learn new skills and apply the abilities he has already learned. Outside of school, he enjoys playing sports such as soccer, basketball and baseball.

Crowley scholarships are part of Crowley’s lengthy and ongoing commitment to education. Over the years, Crowley Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley Jr., has directed the company to present scholarship dollars to deserving students at the maritime academies and other select institutions in the United States, Caribbean and Central America in the name of his father Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who guided the company to extraordinary heights before passing away in 1994.

Since 1984, Crowley has provided more than three million dollars in scholarship funding for more than 1,000 students studying at maritime academies and other select institutions. In 2006, the program expanded to Central America and to date has provided financial assistance to more approximately 20 students in that region.
